If you drove past Richmond Civic Center Friday morning, you would have noticed a colorful carnival being set up.
From Friday through Sunday, the Richmond Police Activities League (RPAL) is hosting a back to school carnival at 25th Street and Barrett Avenue.
The carnival opens tonight at 5 p.m. and closes at 11 p.m. It runs from noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The carnival is free for the entrance and offers food, games and rides for purchase. A book of 10 rides costs $20. Face-painting and prizes will also be offered.
Also, back-to-school backpacks will be given to ticket purchasers.
Coinciding with the Carnival, the Richmond Police Department on Saturday will be holding its free Safe City Summer Crime Prevention Expo on Nevin Street at 450 Civic Center Plaza. From 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the expo will offer a chance for neighbors to meet their beat officers and local neighborhood groups and also get their fix it tickets signed off, or receive giveaways such as free steering wheel locks. Backpacks will also be distributed at the event, which includes activities for kids.
