WCCUSD alums to hold community meeting in Richmond Saturday on educational equity

A group of college undergrads who attended West Contra Costa public schools are encouraging the community to attend an informative meeting at the Coronado YMCA in Richmond on Saturday on the topic of educational equity in the district.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., members of the Students For Education Reform Action Network (SFER-AN) will discuss such topics as Richmond Promise, a $35 million investment by Chevron Richmond to help pay college tuition for Richmond students, along with college readiness, school construction bond measures and issues surrounding the school-to-prison pipeline.

At the meeting, WCCUSD school board member Valerie Cuevas will lead a workshop regarding Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), California’s new school funding formula enacted in 2013.

The Coronado YMCA is located at 263 S 20th St.  Food and refreshments will be provided to the first 100 guests.

The SFER-AN in West Contra Costa is a team of undergraduates who have been empowered to return to their communities to fight for educational justice through community organizing, voter registration, and community awareness campaigns.
