Trainings upcoming for those wishing to volunteer as writer coaches at Richmond high schools

Kennedy High students to receive free one-on-one writing instruction starting Friday.

The highly-touted WriterCoach Connection program is holding upcoming training dates for volunteers in the community who would like to help strengthen students’ writing skills at Kennedy and Richmond high schools.

The program, a partnership between the city and school district, recruits and trains community volunteers — including parents, lawyers, university students, retired educators and writers  — to help students on their writing assignments and help them gain confidence in the craft.

This past school year, the program expanded from one to two high schools, serving 150 students at both sites with help from 200 volunteers.

Those interested in becoming a writer coach can benefit from a series of upcoming trainings on the following dates:

Wednesdays, June 24 & July 1, 9:30–12:30 PM

Fridays, July 10 & 17 from Noon-3 PM

To register for these training sessions, or if you have other questions, contact June Pangelinan, Richmond volunteer recruitment coordinator, at or (510) 685-7054.
