Man charged with DUI following Bay Point crash that killed San Pablo woman denied bail reduction

Online fundraiser launched in wake of San Pablo woman's tragic death in Bay Point parking lot

The man facing charges in connection with an alleged DUI collision in Bay Point earlier this month that killed 24-year-old San Pablo resident Laura Sanchez-Gomez (pictured above) and injured eight others was denied on Wednesday a request to be released from jail on his own recognizance, according to Bay City News.

An additional request by Martin Bretado-Munoz’s defense attorney to reduce her client’s bail amount of $750,000 was also denied by a Contra Costa County Superior Court judge.

Bretado-Munoz, 21, faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and multiple counts of DUI with injury after prosecutors say he backed a full-size truck into a group of people at high speeds in the parking lot of La Finca Restaurant, 706 Port Chicago Highway, about 2 a.m. on May 2. Not only was Sanchez-Gomez killed, but others suffered injuries including a broken neck and lacerated liver, prosecutors said.

Bretado-Munoz, who reportedly had a blood-alcohol level of .15 three hours after the incident, allegedly drove into two other cars and tried to leave the scene, authorities said.

An online fundraiser has been launched to support Sanchez-Gomez’s family in this difficult time.
