El Sobrante pimp convicted in Orange County in human trafficking case

El Sobrante pimp gets five years, eight months in state prison for Orange County trafficking case

An El Sobrante pimp who prosecutors described as a brutal modern-day slave owner was convicted last week for trafficking a Northern California woman in Orange County.

Laton Lateef Belle, 29, is expected to be sentenced to five years, eight months in state prison after pleading guilty on Friday to one felony county each of human trafficking, attempted pimping, and pandering, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. Sentencing is set for June 3 in Santa Ana.

Belle was arrested in August 2013 after an undercover Anaheim police officer contacted his victim, a 25-year-old woman, prosecutors said. During three previous days, Belle met the woman through an Internet website known for prostitution and escort services. He sent her texts promising heaps of money if she traveled with him to Orange County.

However, Belle kept all the money the victim made over the next three days and instilled fear in her through intimidation, at one point telling her he knows killers and knows where she lives, prosecutors said.
