Online fundraiser launched in wake of San Pablo woman's tragic death in Bay Point parking lot

An online memorial fundraiser has been launched for Laura Sanchez-Gomez, the 24-year-old San Pablo woman who was struck and killed by a vehicle in the parking lot of a restaurant and nightclub in Bay Point early Saturday.

Loved ones are raising funds to cover costs for the funeral following the sudden death of Sanchez-Gomez, who was described in this Contra Costa Times article as a genuinely good person who will be sorely missed.

“We need all the help we can for her funeral services,” her cousin wrote on the site. “Anything at this moment helps, our family is going through a very hard time and we appreciate everything.”

About 2 a.m. Saturday, Sanchez-Gomez was killed and eight others injured when a full-size truck driven by 21-year-old Bay Point resident Martin Bretado-Munoz backed into them outside La Finca Restaurant in the 700 block of Port Chicago Highway.

Bretado-Munoz was booked into jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI, according to the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff.

The Times, which interviewed Sanchez-Gomez’s loved ones, said she was a UCSF cafeteria worker who cared for her mother and loved dancing and spending time with her family and friends.
