El Cerrito police arrest man linked to attempted burglary that prompted helicopter search

El Cerrito police arrested a man in connection with an attempted burglary of a home last week that prompted a helicopter search.

Marco Salas, 28, of Oakland was booked on suspicion of attempting to burglarize the home, fleeing from officers and for violating the terms of his probation in connection with the attempted burglary in the 8100 block of Terrace Drive on Thursday, police said.

At about 8:15 p.m.that night, a resident called 911 saying she was home alone and she saw Salas on her front porch. After the call, Salas moved on to a rear door of her home, prompting the resident to run out of her home through her front door, police said.

ContraCostaSheriffchopper.4-15Salas took off running when officers arrived but was soon apprehended, police said.

“However, due to the fact that the victim saw and heard activity at both her front and back doors, there was a belief that there may have been more than one suspect,” police said.

A Contra Costa County sheriff’s helicopter was used to help search the neighborhood along with a San Pablo police K9 unit, but no other suspects were found.

Officers discovered Salas may have unscrewed the exterior light at the front of the home in order to conceal himself in darkness.

Police are asking anyone who has seen this suspect in their neighborhood possibly involved in other crimes to contact ECPD.
