Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11) visited Richmond Monday where he checked out the Richmond Fire Department’s new fire boat and met the newest class of RichmondBUILD, a local job training program run by the City of Richmond.
DeSaulnier began the day with Richmond Fire Department Chief Adrian Sheppard and toured the RFD’s new fire boat, “Victory,” which will be used to reduce the department’s response times in maritime and coastal emergencies. The boat will also ensure the protection of Richmond’s many business operations along the shoreline.
The congressman also had the opportunity to visit with students and mentors of the RichmondBUILD program, a City run program funded through a public-private partnership that is focused on developing talent and skill in the high-growth, high-wage construction and renewable energy fields. RichmondBUILD participants develop specialized skills, are more prepared to enter the workforce and consistently obtain well-paid jobs following graduation.
RichmondBUILD has received national recognition as an exemplary job training program. For more information on RichmondBUILD, visit their webpage here.
