Residents are encouraged to attend an informational meeting Oct. 9 about a proposed pedestrian overpass serving Riverside Elementary School in San Pablo.
The meeting will take place at Riverside Elementary at 6:30 p.m.
The project, part of the $118.8 million I-80 San Pablo Dam Road Interchange Reconstruction project, would replace the existing pedestrian overcrossing and extend the new overpass across Amador Street so kids don’t have to cross the busy roadway to get safely to school, said Owen Martin, president of the Richmond Heights Neighborhood Council.
It would also help ease traffic along Amador Street in this area, Owen added.
The school board is set to take final action to grant an easement for the project on Oct. 15.
“We need to hear from the people at the [Oct. 9] meeting so we can compel the [West Contra Costa Unified School District] to approve the easement,” said Owen.
“If the board rejects to grant the easement, the efforts for the past six years to improve the safety of the kids will be wasted,” Owen added.
The I-80/San Pablo Dam Rd Interchange Reconstruction Project also includes replacing and widening the San Pablo Dam Road overcrossing; relocating McBryde Avenue access from westbound I-80; relocating El Portal Drive access to westbound I-80; and realigning Amador Street to intersect with San Pablo Dam Road farther east allowing for a new left turn from west bound San Pablo Dam Rd. to south bound Amador St.
