The Center for Investigative Reporting has not moved on from its reporting about troubling conditions at the Hacienda public housing complex in Richmond, particularly since the building that was deemed uninhabitable by the city’s housing authority director remains inhabited.
And so CIR began counting the days since Housing Authority director Tim Jones stated the building with than 100 residents is uninhabitable. But the counter isn’t the most interesting online tool CIR is using to tell this ongoing story. The investigative journalism site has also produced an interactive tool that lets users click on each unit of the building to see what problems were found. Click here to use the technology.
When we last reported on this story in April, the Richmond City Council had voted to relocate residents, a process that was expected to take months to complete. We were also waiting to see if the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development would agree to fund the relocation. We’ll keep you informed about future developments.
