A Richmond resident is being heralded by police for calling 911 last weekend after spotting a suspicious car in the driveway of a neighbor’s house, leading to the arrest of two men.
The incident was reported about 11:30 a.m. in the 4800 block of Santa Rita Road, Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.
The neighbor noticed a suspicious vehicle in front of a home that reportedly belongs to the treasurer of the local neighborhood council, who was away on vacation, according to police.
While officers were en route, a van pulled up to the home and an occupant began talking with the people in the suspicious car.
“Once officers arrived it was discovered the car in the driveway had been reported stolen to the California Highway Patrol,” Abetkov said.
A man sitting in the driver’s seat, identified as Victor Hernandez, 21, was arrested for stolen vehicle and violation of probation. Meanwhile, the man driving the van, identified as Derek Hicks, 46, gave consent to a search and was found in possession of burglary tools, crystal methamphetamine, 22 Tramadol pills, and six Zolpidem pills.
Both of those pill types require valid prescriptions, Abetkov said.
Hicks was booked on charges of drug possession and burglary tools.
