Volunteers sought for next phase of alley beautification near 23rd Street
Dozens of volunteers participated in the second phase of an alley beautification project near the 23rd Street merchants corridor in February this year.

Community volunteers are sought to help in the next phase of an alley beautification project near the 23rd Street corridor in Richmond.

Volunteers are encouraged to meet Sunday, July 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at El Portumex, 721 23rd St.

The effort is called Project Xochitl, which means flower in Aztec, and is part of a broader, longterm 23rd Street Revitalization strategy. For a detailed story about the effort to improve the corridor, which maintains popular small businesses despite being plagued by crime, particularly human trafficking and prostitution, can be found here.
