Local girls are encouraged to sign up for Rosie’s Girls Summer Camp by the last possible sign-up date of May 18.
Rosie’s Girls provides middle-school girls from low-income families with full scholarships to experience an adventure akin to those embarked by the Rosie the Riveters during WWII. They’ll learn welding, carpentry and more skills considered unusual to women as part of a program that builds inner strength along with job skills, and encourages them to explore their hopes, dreams, and to expand their horizons. More details are in the flyers below.
The camp is for girls entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grades next year. The last possible date to apply is May 18 at the camp orientation, either on Friday, 6:30-7:30 p.m. or Saturday, May 19 from 10-11:30 a.m. If people plan to apply they need to attend one of the orientations, so plan to stay.
Applications arriving earlier than May 18 will have a greater chance of being accepted. They can call the YMCA of the East Bay for applications to be emailed, drop by the E.M. Downer YMCA at 263 S. 20th St. to fill them out, or come to the Orientation Sessions which will also be at the E.M. Downer YMCA.
