Richmond police arrested two suspects in connection with a fatal assault on Sunday at Lucas Park in Richmond.
Officers responded to the park in the 700 block of 10th Street about 9 p.m. on a call of an assault and found two men assaulting a victim on the ground, Richmond police Lt. Felix Tan said.
The suspects fled when they saw the officers. The victim, 38-year-old Felix Perez Itzep, died at the scene from injuries he sustained during the violent assault, Tan said.
RPD officers surrounded the area, including K-9 Officer Brandon Hodges and his partner Gunnar.
Gunnar found one of the suspects, 24-year-old Adrian Domingo, hiding in the bushes and took him into custody.
From there, RPD Homicide Detective Jose Villalobos took on the investigation and learned the victim was involved in an argument with two suspects over the purchase of alcohol, Tan said. The detective gained a confession from Adrian Domingo and also identified and arrested the second suspect, 18-year-old Omar Domingo, who also confessed, Tan said.
The suspects were charged by the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office for the murder of Felix Itzep on Wednesday.
“This was a unique investigation because everyone involved in this incident only spoke Spanish, and the entire investigation was conducted in Spanish,” Tan said. “We are fortunate to have officers and detectives who are bilingual in several different languages.”
