U.S. World News & Report recognizes several local high schools

Several local school were recognized on the U.S. News & World Report‘s 2018 Best High Schools list.

Leadership Public Schools: Richmond was ranked as California’s 18th best public high school in the report, and 144th nationally.

The school at 880 Bissell Ave. earned a gold medal from U.S. News, which evaluated data from nearly 29,000 public schools nationally. Gold, silver or bronze medals were awarded to schools based on their performance on state assessments and college preparedness, according to U.S. News.

Making Waves Academy at 4123 Lakeside Dr. earned a silver medal, ranking 335th best in California.

And bronze medals were awarded to Aspire Richmond College Preparatory Academy at 3040 Hilltop Mall Rd, and Middle College High School, located on the Contra Costa College campus.

The West Contra Costa Unified School District lauded Middle College High for a 5th straight year of being recognized in the report. The school, which graduated 100-percent of its students in the Class of 2016, collaborates with Contra Costa College to increase its students’ exposure to college courses.

Middle College did not receive a numerical ranking in the U.S. News list because the magazine does not evaluate students who take college classes, WCCUSD said.

U.S. News based the rankings on data from the 2015-16 school year.
