Richmond police reported good news Thursday — that a French Bulldog stolen from the backyard of a home last month has been re-united with his family.

The pooch, named Mac, was stolen March 2 from a home in the area of 25th Street and Murdock Avenue. The theft was caught on surveillance video that was shared publicly by police.

A good Samaritan in Fairfield recognized the dog made famous on social media, leading to Mac’s return to his family.

A 20-year-old Richmond resident, Joseph “Joey” Bagshaw, is being sought in connection with the theft. Police have released images of the suspect and have asked the public to share the post and keep an eye out for Bagshaw. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Odegaard at (510) 965-4966.

“This is a great example of community policing at its finest and the power of social media,” police said. “Because of your efforts in sharing the posts, Mac’s face was thrust into cyber world and turned this negative incident into a story with a positive outcome. We want to thank everyone who shared the post and looked for Mac and the suspect.”
