Fatal shooting at Stop & Shop Market on Carlson Blvd.


A 21 year old Pittsburg man was killed and another person was injured in a shooting at the Stop & Shop Market & Deli at Carlson Boulevard and Potrero Avenue late Thursday, according to police.

Police responded to a Shotspotter gunfire detection alert around 11:30 p.m., police Lt. Felix Tan said. They found the 21 year old victim in the store parking lot suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in his upper torso area. The victim succumbed to his injuries.

A second victim, an Oakland resident, was also struck by gunfire, Tan said. He was taken to a local hospital and released upon treatment. 

“RPD Homicide Unit detectives have preliminary information that the suspect walked on Carlson Blvd. and stopped near the convenience store,” Tan said. “As the victim was walking out of the store, the suspect began shooting at him. The suspect then ran northbound on Carlson Blvd immediately after the shooting.”

No suspect information or motive was immediately known. No one is in custody, police said.we have anyone in custody. The victim’s identity was not released.

It’s the fourth homicide of the year, and also the fourth since 13 days ago, when 20-year-old Javoni Foster of Antioch was fatally shot in the 1000 block of S. 55th Street, which is just blocks from the Stop & Shop Market & Deli.

Three of the city’s four recent homicide victims were killed in the same area of Richmond. Mark Henderson II, 29, was fatally shot in the 4900 block of Hartnett Ave. on Monday, April 9.

Prior to these fatal shootings, the city hadn’t seen a killing in nearly five months.
