Man fatally shot in Richmond Saturday afternoon

A man was fatally shot in Richmond Saturday afternoon, marking the city’s first homicide in nearly five months.

Officers responded to the intersection of Bayview Avenue and Ells Street in the Crescent Park area about 1 p.m., Richmond police Lt. Felix Tan sad.

A preliminary investigation determined that a 20-year-old Antioch man involved in the crash had apparently just been shot in the 1000 block of S. 55th St.  He drove off before crashing nearby at Bayview and Ells, Tan said.

No suspect information was available, and the investigation is in the early stages, Tan added.

The incident marked the city’s first homicide since Nov. 14, 2017, a fact that received a good amount of media attention earlier this week. The nearly five-month period without a homicide in the city is the longest in recorded history, according to Richmond police Chief Allwyn Brown.

  1. There goes the clean record.

Also that is a well traveled street by many in the community that require access to the freeways. The Mayor and police department need to do more to rid that area of crime and protect the people who live and require access to those streets. Put more under cover officers in the area if you can’t get the uniformed officers to catch the crimimals. There are plenty in that area and it needs to be cleaned up.
