We are elated to announce that the Richmond Standard, a pioneering model of community journalism sponsored by Chevron Richmond, was last week awarded the national prize of Best Newsroom from the 2018 Bulldog PR Awards.
In the nation’s first PR awards program judged exclusively by journalists, the Richmond Standard beat out IBM Newsroom by IBM and Knowledge, by Janus Henderson Investors, to earn Gold in the competition for best corporate-sponsored newsroom. The program received a record-breaking number of entries this year.
The Richmond Standard began in 2014 with a simple vision of providing the community with the local news they craved. We employ a traditional newsroom approach that sends daily editorial team members and freelancers into the community in order to provide comprehensive coverage of local happenings on city streets, in schools and in government centers.
The Standard’s focus on facts, consistency and useful information has given community members a reason to come back again and again. Four years later, the Standard has established itself as a credible, important new source for local residents in Richmond and Contra Costa County.
Along with our hard-working staff, the Standard credits and thanks local residents who send in photos and videos, provide eyewitness accounts of local happenings, and share other news that is important to them. We write stories that focus on what actually matters to the community — which in turn, has cemented our publication as a trusted, reliable source for community news.
We take this honor with both gratitude and renewed determination. Our staff pledges to maintain the Gold-standard qualities that have made our news publication the go-to source for West County residents.
Thanks to our staff and, most importantly, our readers, for ensuring the Richmond community gets the news coverage it deserves.
