$20,000 in computer equipment stolen from Boys & Girls Club

An overnight burglary last week led to the theft of $20,000 in computer equipment from the Boys & Girls Club of Contra Costa’s administrative offices in El Sobrante, the center reported Tuesday.

On Tuesday, March 20, staff members discovered a storage unit was stolen with dozens of computers, monitors, keyboards and other equipment. Also stolen were several boxes of educational materials for summer camp programs.

While the organization is insured for the property  loss, the burglary might still be very detrimental, according to the organization.

“It is really heartbreaking that anyone would literally steal these learning opportunities from underserved children in our community,” CEO Dana Fraticelli said.

The summer camp is scheduled to start on June 18 with almost 75 children attending.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the burglary. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (925) 335-1500.

Also, the Boys & Girls Club is accepting cash donations online at bgccontracosta.org or via mail at P.O. Box 20090, El Sobrante, CA, 94520.
