The Salesian College Preparatory boys and girls basketball teams won their respective North Coast Section Division III championship tournaments on Saturday.
The top-seeded Salesian girls overcame Cardinal Newman 50-46 in a tight contest at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, with Angel Jackson leading the way with 17 points and 10 rebounds, according to results posted by MaxPreps.com.
The win marked the fourth consecutive NCS title for the Pride, who earned the right to enter the 2018 CIF State Girls Basketball Championships Open Division as the No. 5 seed. The Pride will travel to No. 4 Folsom for the first round game on Friday, March 9, at 7 p.m.
Salesian boys 67, Campolindo 53
Nine Pride players scored during their victory over Campolindo in the NCS title, with Te’Jon Sawyer leading the way with 24 points and 18 rebounds and James Akinjo adding 17, according to results provided by MaxPreps.com.
As described in the East Bay Times, Campolindo had no one to match up against the “6-foot-7, 260-pound sophomore” Sawyer.
The Pride improved to 30-1, with their only loss occurring back in December against Bishop Gorman at a Las Vegas tournament.
The Pride is the No. 1 seed heading into the 2018 CIF State Boys Basketball Championships Open Division. In the first round, they host No. 8-seeded Folsom this Friday at 7 p.m.
