By Richmond police Chief Allwyn Brown

We are pleased to announce the RPD is making more police incident data free, available and accessible to all with the public launch of our open data portal. Our aim is to be as open as we can be as a means of increasing public participation in community safety and policing. Openness also helps us remain accountable to our purpose.

This new feature is fulfillment of our commitment to the Police Data Initiative launched by the White House in May 2015. This community of practice was formed as a means of advancing some of the guidance offered in President Obama’s 21st Century Policing Task Force Report, which identifies the best means by which police and their local communities can collaborate to reduce crime and increase trust.
