Apparently to this man, everything at the 7-Eleven is free.

A theft suspect who brazenly stole items at the 7-Eleven at 12678 San Pablo Ave. in Richmond on two separate occasions on Jan. 15 stuck around the store long enough for officers to arrive and arrest him, police said. And when cops approached him, he was openly holding a pack of Newport brand cigarettes that he allegedly stole in an armed robbery of the store earlier in the night.

The incident unfolded about midnight, when police responded to the store after employees said the suspect produced a weapon and robbed the store of the single pack of cigarettes. He fled on a bicycle, and police couldn’t initially locate him.

About two hours later, employees at the same convenience store called to report that the same suspect had returned. This time, the “suspect walked to the back of the store, became comfortable and poured himself a cup of soda before he fled once again,” police said.

Shortly after, a police officer found a person matching the suspect’s description near the store.

“As the officer approached the man, he saw the man holding a pack of Newport cigarettes in his hand,” Tan said.

Another officer arrived to assist in the ensuing struggle with the suspect. No one was injured as a result, Tan said.

“Hopefully, the suspect chooses a more productive path in life and healthier habits,” Tan added.
