As part of a heartwarming annual holiday tradition in San Pablo, over 400 handmade holiday cards were created by kids and seniors to benefit recipients of the local Meals on Wheels program, according to city officials.
From now through the end of December, Meals on Wheels recipients will receive the cards along with a nutritious meal and warm conversation.
The Meals on Wheels program provides seniors in the community with a nutritious meal, a safety check and a break from possible loneliness. In addition, the meals reduce the cost on seniors as well as taxpayers, according to the program.
This is the fourth straight year that San Pablo residents have united to bring added cheer to the program’s recipients during the holidays.
The event by the San Pablo Community Services Department had members of the San Pablo Senior Center joining members of San Pablo Recreation’s Teen Program to create over 200 holiday cards. The San Pablo Youth Commission created over 100 cards, and the Helms Middle School after-school program also created over 100.
“This was a very heartwarming experience, and the Community Services Department was honored to take part in bringing smiles and warm wishes to Meals on Wheels recipients for a fourth year,” the department announced in a Facebook post.
