An armed suspect was injured in an officer-involved shooting near the Richmond BART station just before 1 a.m. Thursday, according to police.
The incident occurred after officers responded to a report of a man armed with a gun leaving the station after an altercation.
Police searched the area and found a person matching the description.
“When the [BART police] officers contacted him, the incident quickly unfolded which resulted in an officer involved shooting,” Richmond police Lt. Felix Tan said, who did not elaborate on what led to the shooting.
The male suspect was struck by gunfire and then was “immediately transported to a local trauma center, where he is undergoing surgery,” Tan said.
None of the officers were hurt. Police recovered a firearm from the suspect, whose identity is not yet being released.
The case is being investigated separately by the Richmond Police Department and Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office, Tan said.
