A big-rig traveling westbound on Interstate Highway 80 crashed into two barriers and spilled a relatively small amount of fuel into a nearby storm drain Tuesday afternoon, according to the Bay City News wire service, citing the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported at about noon near the San Pablo Dam Road overpass when the truck collided into a freeway barrier, causing the driver to lose control and crash into another barrier.
The second crash destroyed the front axle of the truck and punctured the fuel tank, CHP spokesman Officer Michael Hamer told the newswire. Only about 2 gallons of fuel spilled into the drain, and firefighters tried to retrieve some of it, Hamer said.
No one was injured and the cause of the crash is under investigation.
The crash blocked two highway lanes that were open again as of 5:15 p.m., BCN reported.
