For the second straight year, four West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) football teams qualified for the North Coast Section (NCS) playoffs, the school district said.
Kennedy, Hercules, El Cerrito, and De Anza high schools were notified last Sunday by the NCS Selection Committee of their respective seeds and schedule.
The Eagles, who won the Tri-Counties Athletic League for a second straight year, have the No. 2 seed in Division IV and host No. 11 El Molino at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11.
Hercules is the No. 7 seed in Division IV and host No. 10 Ygnacio Valley at 7 p.m. tonight.
In its seventh straight NCS appearance, El Cerrito High earned the No. 9 seed in Division III and hosts No. 8 Miramonte at 7 p.m. tonight.
De Anza is No. 16 in Division III and travels to No. 1 Marin Catholic at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
“This is the first time in at least the past 16 seasons that four District high schools qualified for the North Coast Section playoffs in consecutive years,” according to the school district.
But WCCUSD has excelled in other sports, as well, with the El Cerrito and Hercules girls volleyball teams both qualifying for the Division II and Division III NCS playoffs, respectively.
