Salute owner presents $25,000 check to assist North Bay fire relief

Those who dined at Salute e Vita Ristorante at 1900 Esplanade Drive on Oct. 27 helped to raise $25,000 for Wine Country fire victims.

On Monday, Salute’s charitable owner Menbere Aklilu presented the check for that amount to Napa’s mayor, chief of police and fire chief.

Known for hosting more than 1,000 homeless and needy people at her restaurant for a fine-dining meal during Thanksgiving every year, among several other local charitable events,  Aklilu stayed true to form after the devastating North Bay wildfires, dedicating 100-percent of her restaurant’s sales on Oct. 27 to the Northern California Fire Fund.

“Today the City of Richmond shined for its generosity and compassion,” Salute’s posted on its Facebook page Monday. “We can’t thank you enough for the outpouring of love.”

Aklilu held a similar event right after Hurricane Harvey, raising $14,000 for the subsequent relief effort.

Salute’s wasn’t the only Richmond restaurant helping out the wildfire relief effort. On Nov. 3, Brezo in Point Richmond held a benefit event that raised $2,320 for the Community Foundation of Mendocino County Disaster Fund.

“A huge and heartfelt THANK YOU to all who came out and dined with us for our Benefit Dinner on Friday,” the restaurant posted on Facebook. “We are so very grateful for your support.” Photo from the event follows, as posted online by Brezo:
