Free Halloween movie event in Richmond to serve as fundraiser

The recently-launched “Movies in the Plaza” series, which brings free  screenings of popular films to Richmond Civic Center Plaza, is moving indoors on Thursday for a special Halloween event.

At the Community Services Department at 3230 Macdonald Ave.,  Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas will be shown starting at 7 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to come dressed in Halloween costumes, and to bring a blanket.

More importantly, guests should consider bringing three or more non-perishable canned and/or dry goods. Why? Those who do so receive a bag of popcorn, and their donations will benefit the Bay Area Rescue Mission, the Richmond-based nonprofit providing services to the homeless and needy.

In addition, there will be hot dogs, snacks, and drinks sold at the concession stand (cash only).
