The community in encouraged to volunteer for Arbor Day at Unity Park in Richmond this Saturday, Oct. 21, to help plant 40 new trees at the under-construction park.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Richmond Greenway entrance at Ohio Avenue and 16th Street in Richmond.

The full stretch of Unity Park includes 4th and 8th streets and from Marina Way to 20th.

In March 2012, the Friends of the Richmond Greenway (FORG) — a group of more than 20 nonprofit and community organizations with the mission of making the three-mile former railway corridor a safe, active public space — helped the city win a $5 million grant to build the park along sections of the pedestrian/bicycle pathway.
