A Richmond man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at the O’Reilly Auto Parts on Tara Hills Drive on Monday.

The incident occurred approximately 11:55 a.m., when Pinole police officers responded to the store on a report of a robbery with a firearm.

The victim told police the suspect stole merchandise from the store and brandished a firearm when confronted outside the store. The suspect then threatened to shoot a store employee and another victim, police said, before fleeing in a silver Hyundai Accent. One of the victims snapped a photograph of the suspect’s vehicle as it fled. That vehicle’s license plate was entered into a national database of wanted vehicles, and on Wendesday at 11:45 a.m. the suspect vehicle license plate was captured on an automated license plate reader in the City of San Pablo.

“A short time later, San Pablo Police Department officers located the vehicle being driven in the area of Road 20 and 19th Street in the City of San Pablo. San Pablo Police officers stopped the vehicle and the detained the occupants.”

Pinole police detectives responded to the scene and identified Willie Johnson, 41, as the driver of the vehicle. A victim of the robbery also responded to the scene and positively identified Johnson as the subject.

Johnson is currently in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility on charges of first degree robbery and a probation violation and is being held on $50,000 bail.
