The Richmond Sea Scouts program for ages 13 to 18 is recruiting new members. The local program is also holding an all-you-can-eat Spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 9, for just $15 per person at the Point San Pablo Yacht Club.
The Sea Scout program trains youth in sea-based skills that are particularly beneficial for those interested in a career in the Coast Guard, Navy, or maritime industry and would like to know more about it. While this specific program is for males only, females can visit seascout.org to join female crews.
Located at the Northland Sea Base at historic Richmond Shipyard No. 3, opposite 1319 Canal Blvd., the Sea Scouts meet twice weekly. The program includes overnight and weekend cruises, regattas and a week-long cruise each summer. Activities also include sailing, swimming, boat pulling, line handling, navigation, scuttlebutt, engineering, vessel maintenance and repairs, service projects and a host of other team-building activities.
Those interested in joining should call Paul Hirsh at (415) 637-9619 or visit northlandnautical.org.
You don’t have to join the program to support it. See the flyer below for the Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser set for 6 p.m. on Sept. 9 at 700 Cutting Blvd. All proceeds benefit the Northland Nautical Foundation, the nonprofit that sponsors the program.
