Richmond’s annual Back to School Carnival — a full weekend of amusement rides, carnival games, fair food and a school supplies giveaway — will take place at Civic Center Plaza and Macdonald Avenue from Friday, Aug. 25 through Sunday, Aug. 27.

The free-admission carnival will run from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and from noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

A $30 wristband can be purchased at the carnival for unlimited rides for one day. However, the cost goes down to $20 per wristband if you buy it in person at these locations: Richmond Recreation Complex, 3230 Macdonald Ave., Richmond Plunge, 1 E Richmond Ave., and Richmond Senior Center, 2525 Macdonald Ave.

School supplies will be given away to attendees on Saturday on a first come first served basis. Donations of backpacks and school supplies will be accepted through the morning of Saturday, Aug. 26 and can be delivered to the Richmond Police Activities League at 2200 Macdonald Ave.

“For the past two years, the Richmond Back to School Carnival has brought families in the community together, giving kids an enjoyable start to the new school year,” according to officials with the City of Richmond’s Community Services Department, which partners with the Richmond Police Activities League and Richmond Police Department to hold the event.
