Richmond mayor headed to local pub for city's 112th birthday

Happy birthday, Richmond!

Today marks the city’s 112th birthday.

To celebrate, Mayor Tom Butt is inviting community members to join him at Up and Under Pub & Grill at 2 W Richmond Ave. in Point Richmond. Everyone is meeting at about 5 p.m.

The mayor says he’ll buy a drink for anyone who can answer a question correctly on his Richmond History Quiz.

The city was incorporated on Aug. 7, 1905 with a population of about 2,150. The incorporation came several years after Augustin S. Macdonald inspired the building of the Santa Fe Railroad terminus in Point Richmond, and three years after the Richmond Refinery was commissioned by Standard Oil Company, the company now known as Chevron. See the city’s website for a concise description of the city’s history.
