Leave it to Richmond restaurant owner Menbere Aklilu—aka ‘Menbe’—to turn her own birthday celebration into an opportunity to help those in need.
Menbe has invited residents to come share in her upcoming birthday celebration at Salute e Vita Ristorante, at 1900 Esplanade Drive in Richmond, on Sunday, July 16th from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event will raise funds for local brothers Eric, Aiden and Jasiah, who lost their mother on April 4 of this year. Tragically, they witnessed their mother’s murder, just like Menbe did herself when she was only 10 years old.
The three boys were left in the care of their grandmother, Barbara Harris, a longtime Richmond resident.
Event-goers can celebrate Menbe’s 55th birthday with complimentary cuisine, wine, champagne and dessert. In lieu of gifts, attendees are asked to make a tax-deductible donation to the boys’ education fund.
Menbe’s total fundraising goal for this event is $30,000 and she has arranged three levels of possible giving that begin at $150.
