Richmond Police nab tennis coach suspected of child sexual assault

Richmond police have arrested a local tennis coach on suspicion of having sex with two teenage tennis students.

Normandie Burgos, who had been charged but acquitted of charges of sexual assault in 2006, was arrested Monday in Richmond at a local tennis court and is being held on $1.5 million bail.

In February, Richmond detectives received a tip of  possible sexual assault involving a 16-year-old boy and his tennis coach. Burgos, a former high school tennis coach in Mill Valley, was the founder of Burgos Tennis Foundation in Sausalito, a tennis academy.

The alleged victim said he had been sexually assaulted by Burgos since he was 14. Detectives subsequently discovered another alleged juvenile victim.

In 2006, Burgos was a tennis coach at Tamalpais High School when he was charged with child molestation and sexual battery. A trial on the charges resulted in a hung jury, and Burgos was never recharged.

Richmond Police believe there may be other victims and have asked anyone with information about Burgos to contact them at (510) 620-6668.
