Travis Credit Union is set to hold a financial education bootcamp in Richmond on Wednesday, June 21, for young people ages 14 to 24.
The Mad City Money program will run from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Crescent Park Multi-Cultural Family Resource Center, 5004 Hartnett Ave. To sign up, go here.
Mad City Money is a hands-on simulation that challenges youth to manage a financial budget. Participants are provided with a family and a budget, and then tour stations where they make decisions on housing, transportation, food, clothing, household necessities, day care and other needs.
They must balance occupations, loan debt, medical insurance payments — all that real-life stuff. And they’ll face obstacles such as a pushy car salesperson, a commission-based realtor, and the occasional costly life misfortunes known as the Fickle Finger of Fate.
Refreshments, prizes and a drawing for an Apple Watch will be provided at the boot camp.
