More than 20 community members helped spruce up Nichol Park, the Richmond Tool Library and the city’s Community Services Department as part of a volunteer event Saturday.

The volunteers participated in the ServiceWorks Richmond “Global Community Day” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. They weeded, raked, pruned, swept and removed debris and trash from Nichol Park and adjacent areas. They also helped revamp the Richmond Tool Library, a relatively new resource allowing residents to borrow tools for home improvement projects, just like borrowing library books.

The partnership involving the city of Richmond Community Services Department, Richmond Tool Library, and Richmond Love Your Block included a clothing donations drive for the Bay Area Rescue Mission, a Richmond-based homeless services center.
