The Trails for Richmond Action Committee (TRAC) has released a handy guide to events happening throughout this summer along the city’s stretch of the San Francisco Bay Trail.

Tuesday, June 13, 5:30 – 7:30 PM: Explore Point Pinole Regional Shoreline’s New Bay Trail. Join SPAWNERS for a walk on the stunning new Bay Trail winding through the $14 million Dotson Family Marsh wetland restoration site recently added to now 2,650-acre Point Pinole Regional Shoreline. Leader will be TRAC Chair Bruce Beyaert. Meeting Place: Dotson Family Marsh Staging Area at the northern end of Goodrick Avenue off the Richmond Parkway.

Sunday, June 18, 9 AM – 1 PM: Pancake Breakfast Aboard SS Red Oak Victory. Bike or hike the Shipyard 3 Trail for home cooked scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon and of course pancakes! Beverages include orange juice and coffee; mimosas are available for an extra fee. Arrive early to reserve your seat with the best view of the SF Bay! CLICK HERE for details.

Sunday, June 18, 10 AM – 4 PM: Father’s Day Bike Ride to Treasure Island and BarBQ. Rich City Rides would is sending a special invitation to all of our Fathers out in our communities to come out and ride and then BBQ a nice meal to enjoy after this huge but easy 33.8-mile adventure to and from Treasure Island! CLICK HERE for information and to register

Tuesday, June 20, 7:30 – 9:30 PM: Explore Point Pinole Regional Shoreline. Join EBRPD naturalist James Wilson to explore the explosive and peaceful past of this park that was preserved by dynamite while catching the coastal grassland sunset and saunter through the beautiful eucalyptus trees. Meet at the Atlas Road Bridge. Info; 544-2233.

Sunday, June 25, 10 AM – 1 PM: The Waterways Bike Ride. Urban Tilth and Rich City Rides have collaborated to create an event for the community. You, your entire family, and friends are invited to a day of cycling along the Bay Trail which takes us through the spectacular watersheds of the Richmond shoreline and the historic (and newly-opened) Dotson Marsh trails. CLICK HERE for information and to register.

Saturday, July 1, 10 AM – 2 PM: Richmond Shoreline BioBlitz. Get ready to enjoy being a citizen scientist through simple observation and photo documentation. Join Wholly H2O, California Academy of Sciences and The Watershed Project for a fun half-day BioBlitz at Point Pinole Regional Shoreline. A BioBlitz focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time. Count oysters in their beds. Observe and photograph birds, bugs, plants, aquatic life. Help do water quality testing. Observations will be added to the project Richmond CA Watershed on iNaturalist.org. With enough participants, we’ll BioBlitz Wildcat Marsh Loop Trail, just 7 minutes south. Friday, July 7, 10 AM – 12:30 PM: Over The Hills Gang Hike at Miler/Knox Regional Shoreline. Join EBRPD’s “Trail Gail” for this monthly series of hikes for those 55 years and older interested in nature study, history, fitness and fun. Meet at northern parking lot on Dornan Drive.  Info: 544-2233.

Saturday, July 8, 7 AM – 7PM:  12-Hour Race Party at Point Pinole Regional Shoreline. Join Brazen Racing for a day of running featuring 6-hour and 12-hour races, as well 5K and 10K races. CLICK HERE for information and to register.

Saturday, Sept. 16, 10 AM – 2 PM: Point Pinole’s New Bay Trail. Join Greenbelt Alliance on five to six mile hike experiencing the stunning new Bay Trail extensions of Point Pinole Regional Shoreline. Bruce and Sandra Beyaert will lead us through the Bay Area’s largest shoreline park and share a slice of the park’s 80-years of explosives manufacturing history.
