NFL’s Takk McKinley to hold ‘Community Meet & Greet’ in Richmond

NFL's Takk McKinley to return home for 'Community Meet & Greet'

The nonprofit For Richmond announced Friday it is inviting local residents to a “Community Meet & Greet” on Saturday, June 10, with Richmond native Takkarist “Takk” McKinley, who was selected No. 26 overall by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Admission is free to the event scheduled from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at For Richmond’s office at 921 Marina Way South, Suite M, in Richmond. Refreshments will be served.

At the event, McKinley will take time thank his local mentors and fans. The Kennedy High graduate, who starred as an ultra-fast, menacing pass rusher at UCLA, also plans to make a “big Richmond-related surprise announcement” at the meet and greet, according to For Richmond.

McKinley was the talk of the NFL on draft day, particularly after holding up a photo of his beloved late grandmother, Myrtle Collins, who died in 2011. Right before she passed away, McKinley made a promise to her that he would achieve his NFL dreams.

His story of overcoming struggles has been told countless times in recent years, including at ESPN. His lovable personality has helped: On Thursday, news outlets including had fun with a story about Takk joyously dancing at becoming a millionaire.
