Several members of the Oakland Raiders are scheduled to visit Verde Elementary in North Richmond on Thursday, May 25 for a junior training camp with students.
The camp’s arrival is both a reward and incentive for the hard work students in grades 2 through 6 have done this school year, including over the next few weeks for the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), according to Justin Johnson, graduate tutor at Verde Elementary.
From March through December, the Raiders regularly hold Gatorade Junior Training Camps at elementary schools, recreation centers and other nonprofits throughout the Bay Area. The training session lasts an hour and provides a fun and safe environment for kids to be active.
The NFL program isn’t a stranger to Richmond. In March, the Raiders brought their junior camp to Caliber Beta Academy.
