In honor of Earth Day on Saturday, throngs of volunteers played a role in making the Richmond community a better place to live.
Several events were held community-wide, including the 7th Annual North Richmond Festival & Earth Day Celebration, which included a clean-up of Wildcat Creek, garden projects for volunteers, and then a family-friendly festival at the Ballfield/Park at Fred Jackson Way and Pittsburg Ave.
In downtown Richmond, volunteers took part in a Spring Clean-Up & Chess event in the Community Green Space at Macdonald Avenue and Harbour Way, an event held by the Richmond Main Street Initiative.
And on the Richmond Greenway near S. 42nd St., the nonprofit Groundwork Richmond held an Earth Day event at the pocket park it has built at the Richmond Greenway at 42nd Street, which included native garden planning, influential local speakers and live entertainment.
