The community is invited to a celebration of National Park Rx Day at John F. Kennedy Park in Richmond on Sunday, April 23.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park at Cutting Boulevard and South 41st Street, attendees will celebrate the health benefits of parks by enjoying a number of fun family activities, including a bike rodeo, obstacle course, seed planting and physician-led park walks.
“Learn tips to improve your health and well-being, receive free health screenings and participate in low-impact exercises, including Tai chi,” organizers said.
This is Richmond’s second annual Park Rx Day and is sponsored by the Richmond Community Services Department, Contra Costa Health Services and the National Park Service.
The ultimate aim of the nationally celebrated event is to exhibit how spending time outside on a regular basis – to walk, play or just relax – helps reduce the risk of health concerns such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, heart disease and depression.
