The suspect in the murder of 29-year-old Rashanda Franklin, who was fatally shot in front of her two young children on Tuesday morning, has been arrested in Sacramento, police said this afternoon.
Lawyer Dushan McBride, 43, of San Pablo, was arrested about 1 p.m. today with help from a U.S. Marshals Service task force. His Mercedes, a vehicle police believe he was driving at the time of the crime, was impounded, police said.
According to RPD, McBride, 43, began following Franklin’s car in his 2007 silver 4-door Mercedes-Benz S550 (paper plates) about 8:40 a.m.
Franklin had been trying to avoid him, but when she arrived at the stop sign on Rheem Ave. at 29th St., the suspect drove his car ahead and in the path of her car. The suspect then exited his car, walked up to Franklin, argued for a few seconds and shot her as the children watched, police said. He immediately fled southbound on 29th St in his car.
Witnesses to the shooting assisted the children and, along with video surveillance in the area, helped identify McBride as well as the Mercedes he had been driving.
Police reportedly had responded to previous domestic violence cases involving the couple.
