Rashanda Franklin, 29, of Richmond was fatally shot while in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in Richmond Tuesday morning — and while her two young children were in the car.
Richmond police have identified the murder suspect as Lawyer Dushan McBride (pictured below), 43, of San Pablo, who reportedly had a dispute with Franklin before the shooting.
Police responded around 8:40 a.m. to a call of a disturbance and possible shooting at the intersection of Rheem Avenue and 29th Street, Richmond police Lt. Felix Tan said.
“When officers arrived, they found a vehicle stopped and a woman deceased in the vehicle,” Tan said. “She was in the driver’s seat.”
The shooting was possibly a domestic violence incident, Tan said.
Investigators learned Franklin was on her way to drop off her children at a local daycare facility when she saw her estranged boyfriend, who followed her in his 2007 silver 4-door Mercedes-Benz S550 (paper plates).
“When Rashanda arrived at the stop sign on Rheem Ave. at 29th St., the suspect drove his car ahead and in the path of Rashanda’s car,” police said. “The suspect got out of his car, walked up to Rashanda, argued for a few seconds and shot her as the children watched. The suspect immediately fled southbound on 29th St in his car.”
There is a $2 million warrant for McBride’s arrest.
