College reps to visit De Anza High for ‘HBCU Pop-Up Tour’ Tuesday

Local students have an opportunity to learn more about historically-black colleges and universities (HBCU) during an informational event at De Anza High on Tuesday.

Held by Onyx Scholar Program, the event runs from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the theater at De Anza High, 5000 Valley View Road, and will include free healthy snacks and beverages, raffle prizes and giveaway items.

Students will benefit from “on the spot” information from college representatives about admission and mentoring and have an opportunity to hear from a panel of speakers, providing opportunities to freely ask questions ranging from academics to campus atmosphere at an HBCU.

“The 106 KMEL Street will also be in attendance to provide support and live coverage of the event,” organizers said.

For about a year, the Onyx Scholar Program has held “Pop-Up Tours” throughout the Bay Area to raise awareness about opportunities provided by HBCUs.
