The California Highway Patrol has released the name of one of three suspects arrested in connection with the shooting on Interstate Highway 80 that left a 24-year-old man in critical condition Thursday afternoon and shut down the eastbound lanes.
On social media Friday, friends and family of the shooting victim, a Pinole resident, reported he has died from his injuries. We have not received official confirmation of his identity.
Elliot Johnhenry Johnson, 24, of Richmond, and two juveniles were arrested shortly after gunfire erupted on the freeway near San Pablo Avenue. The juveniles are not being identified due to their age.
Johnson has “an extensive violent criminal history ranging from gun crimes to carjacking,” according to CHP.
The shooting occurred about 3:30pm and also left a 24-year-old woman injured. The victims were in a Honda Odyssey at the time. The woman is in stable condition, CHP said.
“The reason this case was solved quickly was due to several outstanding witnesses, including an off-duty police officer, coming forward and providing information to our investigators,” according to CHP, who also thanks Richmond police for their assistance.
