O-naje, the Pinole Valley High alum who is never shy about getting political in his rhymes, has released a new track addressing officer-involved shootings called Manblack.
The Hercules-raised rapper, who we most recently wrote about when he released the equally topical Political Circus, says his latest song attempts to encourage a color blind justice system.
Manblack, he says, is a flip on “black man.”
“The idea was to put the Man in front of black to emphasize the Man as being more prominent than the color,” O-naje said. “So many ideas are associated with color (black, white etc…) that it tends to cloud the perception of how we see others. Putting the man or woman in front forces you to recognize the humanity of the individual first.”
