Storm-caused power outages in the East Bay have forced Contra Costa College to cancel classes today and shut the lights off at a number of local businesses.

Wind and rain caused thousands of residents and businesses to lose power this morning. At one point in the East Bay, as many as 11,500 PG&E customers lost power, mainly in the Richmond and San Pablo areas. As of 7:15 a.m. 10,700 were still without power, PG&E spokesman J.D. Guidi said.

As of 11:45 a.m., power remained out for many of Richmond’s businesses, and traffic lights were still affected.
