An NFL scout has compared UCLA defensive end Takkarist McKinley, a Kennedy High school graduate, to nine-time Pro Bowler DeMarcus Ware, ESPN reported Wednesday.

“Terrific speed off the edge,” the scout told MMQB. “Perfect for a 3-4 linebacker in the NFL. Could be the next DeMarcus Ware. Freak athlete.”

McKinley is having his best season when it matters most — the 6-2, 265-pound star will be eligible for the 2017 NFL draft. In six games, he’s recorded four sacks, matching last year’s 13-game total, and has a team-high nine tackles for a loss.

The ESPN article also touted McKinley’s speed that was apparent even at Kennedy High, where he recorded 10.58 in the 100 meters in the preliminaries of a state track meet in 2012.
